: Gum

Gum's debut album Low-flying Kites was released to very favourable reviews in 2003.

It featured a clutch of great tunes and some spooky atmospherics, all brought into focus by some top-notch production. The album introduced the mellifluous vocals of Leigh Myles to a wide audience, with sales in Australia, the US, Japan and New Zealand, as well as in the UK. One reviewer described the band as sounding ‘like Hope Sandoval fronting OK Computer-era Radiohead’

Their second release was the mini-album Seven Feeble Alibis in 2006. Punchier and even more radio-friendly than the debut collection, Alibis occupied a more muscular territory than its predecessor - imagine Aimee Mann going for the jugular by way of Zero 7 and you’re halfway there. The album still featured those familiar dreamy soundscapes, but the skilful addition of multi-layered backing vocals helped lift some killer choruses to truly dizzying heights.

Seven Feeble Alibis and Low-flying Kites are both available to buy now.
